Check it out below in our Q&A style interview.
Let’s get to know you…
What made you want to be a wedding planner? What’s your background? How long have you been in business?
I have wanted to be a Wedding Planner since I was 17! I interned for a local Wedding Planner and immediately knew the wedding industry was my niche. It’s a culmination of all things I value – family, love, celebration. I pursued a degree at Penn State (WE ARE!) in Hospitality Management, interning for luxury hotel brands and venues along the way. I lived in “the city that never sleeps” right out of college, working at the New York Marriott Marquis as an Event Manager. As much as I loved the “hustle and bustle” lifestyle in New York City, I was excited for my next opportunity in Los Angeles. I left the corporate world and launched Emily Anne Weddings, servicing wedding coordination and full planning + design for the modern, authentic couple. We have officially been in business for almost a year, and it has been nothing short of the most exciting adventure as a business owner!
What do you offer (month-of coordination, full-service planning, or à la carte planning)?
We offer three packages at Emily Anne Weddings, but each proposal is customized per couple’s goals, priorities, and wedding vision. Our Wedding Day Management begins two months prior to wedding day, where we finalize all details, streamline communication between vendors, and execute wedding rehearsal, ceremony, and reception. Our Partial Planning Package begins immediately after signing, and is for the couple that has made strides in planning but wants an expert to give professional guidance and ensure they are on the right track. Our Full Planning Package is a full step-by-step guide to success in their wedding planning journey! This is for the couple that wants to truly enjoy the process of being engaged. We offer a la carte options like attire consultation, gift bag assembly, website creation, and more.
What is your planning process like?
All of my couples know during our first call, the Discovery Call, that our planning journey is intended to be a positive experience and overall fun process. I always encourage my couples to grab a glass of wine or coffee/tea for our planning calls. I like to make the experience stress-free, especially during the vendor search. Together, we customize our communication plan, our decision-making process, and our step-by-step journey so that each couple feels comfortable and confident in our plan.
What do you like about what you do? What is most rewarding about what you do?
I have always been passionate about making an impact on the world in my professional career. When I began building my brand, I knew that I wanted my first impression to be positive energy. When I bring laughter and joy into the planning process, I know that I am doing my job. It’s rewarding to know that I helped make the couple’s best day of their life truly just that!
What makes you stand out amongst other competitors? Why should someone hire you?
Wedding Planners are “a dime a dozen” in LA, right? So what makes Emily Anne Weddings different? I’m different mainly because I am in this business to help people. I’m an authentic brand looking to help two soulmates begin the next chapter of the rest of their lives! I also donate a percentage of my proceeds to Step Up, an organization that empowers and educates teenage girls to change the world. I also have versatile experience in the events industry. I’m a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and a Certified Wedding Planner (CWP). This gives credibility to my guidance and process. Last, a couple should hire a person they have a connection with. I am not the planner for all couples! All couples that sign with me feel that we clicked right off the bat.
What’s your secret for staying calm under pressure, and how do you deal with day-of disasters?
In fight-or-flight situations, I have always been the one in the group to take charge and remain calm with a smile on my face! It’s one of the most important qualities of being a Wedding Planner. Each situation is handled on a case-by-case basis, but all fires are put out quickly and efficiently. I am a firm believer, however, that all events that run smoothly are greatly planned. The only thing a planner can’t control is the weather!
Let’s talk about the event…
What was your vision for the event?
I planned a styled shoot at The Estate at Via Las Palmas, and we were visualizing a boho chic design concept with a neutral color palette and a pop of rust. Tons of dried floral and gold accents!
Where did you find inspiration to bring your vision to life?
The boho look is actually not my “go-to” look – I typically design more modern looks with neutral color palettes. However, boho is super trending in Palm Springs and LA, so I wanted to bring in a vision that was a little more outside my comfort zone.
What was your experience like planning an event at The Estate at Via Las Palmas?
The entire team at The Estate at Via Las Palmas was nothing short of a joy to work with! They were so accommodating throughout the planning and even assisted throughout the day during execution. Any time someone from the vendor team needed assistance, they were always willing to jump in and assist. I cannot wait to service a wedding there soon!
What did you like most about the venue?
This estate is everything + more in a wedding venue!! There is a huge drive out front for valet, and when your guests walk inside, they will immediately feel the luxurious and modern aesthetic. There is a gorgeous pool which serves as the perfect backdrop for photos. Adjacent to the pool is a large outdoor bar and tons of space for lounge seating. The ceremony area is on a beautiful lawn with palm trees throughout! And let’s not forget about the in-ground trampoline. This was the couple’s favorite spot for photos!!
What are your thoughts on weekend long weddings? Could you see yourself planning weekend long events here in the future?
I would say that weekend long weddings are becoming more and more common! Guests rather make the most of their time traveling to your wedding destination, so if there are events such as a Welcome Party or Post-Wedding Brunch, it gives the guests leaving more fulfilled.
What advice do you have for a couple planning their wedding at The Estate at Via Las Palmas?
Ask the team for their vendor list! They have a solid group of vendors who love to work at their venue and know all the ins + outs. Ask them for opinions on design as well! They love to get involved in their couple’s wedding vision and would be more than happy to offer guidance and recommendations.
